Shannon Atkeson (she/her) completed her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Boston College and is a Rostered Psychotherapist in Vermont. Prior to counseling, she worked as a high school French teacher for 8 years, gaining insight into adolescents and their successes, triumphs, worries, and struggles. Shannon also brings a wealth of experience from working as a mental health clinician with clients experiencing homelessness in Boston, offering valuable insights into the complexities of mental health and life circumstances.

Shannon works with people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. She embraces a social justice lens and acknowledges the societal factors that contribute to mental health challenges. She continuously educates herself about different cultures, fostering an environment of inclusion and understanding. She believes strongly in the importance and power of the therapeutic relationship and employs a collaborative approach that empowers clients to explore their potential and gain the tools they need to thrive. Shannon strives to create a warm, judgment-free space in her sessions and utilizes a variety of techniques in order to guide individuals through their unique struggles. 

When Shannon is not with clients, she is often playing board games, walking (or running) her high-energy dog, or baking. 

Shannon currently sees clients out of the Shelburne office or via telehealth. She accepts Vermont Medicaid, BCBS and MVP insurances. She offers services in both French and English.
